List of Items You Must Bring When Studying Abroad

Check this checklist  for a list of items you need when going to study abroad:

1. University Documents

Confirmation of registration and other important documents from the intended university. Examples are information about the first day at school, check-in information for your residence, etc. The university may also have instructed you to bring certain items so read the information carefully.

2. Passport and student visa

Stationery such as pens and easily accessible accommodation details to fill in the landing cards that are usually handed out on planes before landing in a foreign country. 

 

3. Insurance

Insurance and accessories such as policy cards and letters. Many universities require students to show proof of insurance on their first day on campus. 

4. Medicines and vaccinations

Remember to pack all necessary medications. Painkillers and diarrhea medications should also be brought. If you are carrying strong prescription drugs or large amounts of medication, you must have a medical certificate from a doctor. Don’t forget to take any necessary vaccinations before travel. Check with the center what vaccinations they recommend.

5. Adapter and charger ( charger )

Don’t forget to bring cell phone chargers and chargers for other electrical devices. Also check the plug type and voltage of your destination country. Adapters are required if your destination country uses a different plug type and if the voltage is different from your home country devices such as hair dryers, etc..

 

 

6. Money and debit/credit cards

Make sure to exchange some local currency before going but don’t bring too much cash, and don’t keep all your money and cards in the same place. If you have a Visa or Mastercard, you can withdraw money and pay at most major stores and restaurants around the world but don’t be surprised if some places only take cash.

7. Things to prepare digitally

Here are some good things to prepare:

• Dictionary and language application

It is highly recommended that people bring a small dictionary when studying abroad. Nowadays, it is often easier with an app on the phone preferably one that works offline. There are also many other apps that can facilitate language learning.

• Document backup

Send important documents to web-based email addresses. Scan or take photos of your passport, student visa, acceptance letter, insurance, and important addresses etc.

• Offline maps and locations

​Download  maps of important locations in  offline form  before you arrive at your destination country. You will need time to get a new SIM card and also get internet access on  your cellphone . So it’s better to be careful, guys!

• E-book

Books take up a lot of space so why not just bring e-books.

8. Nigerian cooking spices

Even though there are many Asian shops abroad, Indonesian spices are not always available. You can bring some instant spices that will make your cooking process easier when you study abroad. For example, when you miss Opor Ayam, you can immediately cook chicken with instant Opor seasoning which you can buy in nigeria before leaving abroad.

 

But be careful with the regulations in your destination country, OK! Because some countries are known to be quite  strict  in allowing food ingredients from abroad, for example Australia (especially those containing animal ingredients or fruit and vegetables). Don’t let the spices you bring into the country not be allowed into the country!
