Must-Visit Tourist Attractions in Canada

The second largest country in the world, Canada has beautiful landscapes and unique sites for travelers to explore

Canada is a popular destination for international students to study. Apart from having world-class universities and educational institutions, international students are also offered other interesting things, namely tourist attractions in Canada which are also popular international tourist destinations.

The second largest country in the world, Canada has beautiful landscapes and unique sites for travelers to explore. From coast to coast to coast, the country is home to vibrant, culturally rich cities, along with incredible natural wonders.

The following are the most popular tourist attractions in Canada that you must visit:

Churchill

Although only a small town of 1,000 residents, Churchill attracts many people every year to see its most famous resident, the polar bear. Nicknamed the “Polar Bear Capital of the World,” Churchill is located in the province of Manitoba on the coast of Hudson Bay. Besides polar bears, Churchill is also a place to see beluga whales, birds, and the aurora borealis.

The best time to see polar bears in Churchill is in October and November when the bears migrate up the coast, hunting for seafood. The tourism industry here provides tours and vehicles called tundra trains for the safety of tourists and bears.

In the summer months, tour operations take people out on the water to see beluga whales, which migrate here by the thousands. Some tourists don’t even wear swimsuits and swim with the whales.

Churchill also presents an excellent place to see the aurora borealis, or northern lights. Typically, the peak time to see this natural wonder is between January and March. The main ways to reach Churchill are by plane and train. Rail connections originate from Winnipeg and Thompson.

Cape Breton Island

Although located northeast of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton Island was once its own independent colony until it was forced to join in 1820. Since it welcomed thousands of Scottish expatriates in the early 19th century, Cape Breton Island remained the only place in North America. where you’ll hear Gaelic, with a number of traditional Scottish music concerts on offer.

As well as Scotland, Cape Breton also has a healthy French population, with the 18th-century Fort Louisbourg a highlight. The interesting Mi’kmaq community adds a fun mix of cultural influences.

Whale watching here is unforgettable. Sightings are almost guaranteed at the north end (top of the island), which you can reach by boat or kayak tour – the views alone make the trip worth it. Among its spectacular landscapes, the highlight is undoubtedly the Cape Breton Highlands National Park with its phenomenal Cabot Trail and beautiful lookout points. Don’t forget beautiful fishing villages like Bay St. Lawrence, where you will find delicious seafood.

Whistler

Whistler is the largest and most famous alpine ski destination in North America. Located in the Coastal Mountains of British Columbia in western Canada, Whistler is a two-hour drive from Vancouver along Canada’s most scenic drive, the Sea-to-Sky Highway. At the base of the two mountains are three quaint villages, Whistler Village, Creekside, and Upper Village. The Peak 2 Peak gondola transports visitors from the village to the mountains.

Today, Whistler is home to many world-class ski resorts and offers incredible views from its mountain slopes that bring adventurers back year after year. Apart from snow sports, the mountains are also a great place for hiking and rock climbing.

Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island, named after British explorer George Vancouver, is the largest island off the West Coast of the North American continent. Surrounded by Pacific waters, this is a truly photogenic island filled with sparkling lakes, impressive waterfalls, magical fjords and glacial mountains that are popular with hikers.

The island is known for the beautiful Butchart Gardens, the surfing town of Tofino, and the wilderness to the north, where one can take a ferry to Prince Rupert, and another to Alaska from there. Vancouver Island is also a wildlife hotspot. Not only does it offer some of the best whale watching in the world – you can even kayak with orcas – but it’s also a great place for bird watching and grizzly bear sightings.

One of the best places to take a nature walk is at Strathcona Provincial Park, where you’ll find some of the island’s spectacular views. Visit Cathedral Grove with its ancient woodland, or tee off at one of the many fantastic golf courses.

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is a series of three stunning waterfalls located on the border of Ontario Canada and New York United States. The Ontario side of the Falls is called Horseshoe Falls and offers the best views and most of the attractions. The area around the falls is a major tourist attraction filled with observation towers, restaurants, souvenir shops, casinos and high-rise hotels.

One of the best places to see Niagara Falls on the Ontario side is from Queen Victoria Park where the Falls are illuminated and fireworks are displayed every night during the summer. See them from above or below – it’s up to you – with helicopter tours, jet boat tours, observation decks next to Skylon Tower, and lifts that take you behind the falls.

Banff National Park

Tucked away in the Canadian Rockies, Banff National Park is Canada’s oldest national park, and also one of the largest. Due to its large size and remote location, many people are drawn to this untouched part of the world to isolate themselves.

There are two popular routes through the park, but it doesn’t matter which one you choose. Both are filled with jaw-dropping views, from sparkling colorful lakes and dramatic canyons to scenic viewpoints and majestic waterfalls. It doesn’t matter whether you have your own car, as shuttle services make up most of the main attractions in the park.

Active travelers will be in their element here with the opportunity to snowshoe or paddle the lake, while wildlife watchers will have their own adventure. Banff National Park is filled with animals – the most anticipated creature is, of course, the grizzly bear.
